1948 Ford Coupe Version II

Note the 48 is Pat's car

48 Ford Version II circa 1958-1959 Well, the 48 is back on the road. Actually it was April 98 that I got the car back together. After having the car painted, putting the interior back in, and installing the stainless, I was pretty happy with the results. I mean I couldn't find any major problems with the paint or bodywork, so I really wanted to get the car out onto the street where I knew those people with the discriminating eye would more than gladly point out all of the faults on the freshly painted car. It's great to have these people associated with the hobby, I mean getting a chance to critique a fresh car, just think of how helpful that is for these people. All of the experience they get criticizing cars will really help them to get a perfect car on the road, if they ever get a car….

First day out, a typical cruise night Rutts Hutt.. we've all met this guy,,,

Him: Nice car.

Me: Yea, thanks.

Him: What's this?

Me: I don't know, let me see,,,

Him: Over here.

Me: Oh, Jeez, thanks for pointing that out, I would never have noticed that..

Him: Looks like the footprints of a Gnat,,, must have landed in the paint before it was dry.

Me: Great, well now I'll know what to look for, I'll check the rest of the car this weekend.

Me: You gotta car here? Oh, an 82 Toyota pickup. Now that's a real classic, nice, about another week or
so and that entire left quarter should be just about rusted off up to the top of the bed.

Me: Ah, think of the bright side, the truck will be lighter… Speaking of lighter,,, you know if you have your wife give up one order per week of fries and gravy, and the side order of mayonnaise sandwiches, IN ABOUT THREE HUNDRED WEEKS SHE MIGHT BE THE SIZE OF A NORMAL PERSON, THEN YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO DRAG HER FAT ASS AROUND IN THE BACK OF THAT PICKUP!!!.

Me: HEY,, WAIT WHERE ARE YOU GOING? I'm just trying to help you with your wife,, I mean you helped me with my car…

Me: OK, see you next week, I'd like to talk with you about that little gorilla that follows you around.

Me: What's that? Oh, sorry, I didn't realize you had a daughter….

Me: Oops, looks like a couple more critics are at the car, I'd better get over there so I can be shown the rest of the faults with the car……

Anyway, the car is done, I'm happy with it, and screw the 'cruise night' critics.

1948 Ford Coupe

Note the 48 is Pat's car
48 Coupe I bought this car in 1988 from a friend. It was a good stock original car with an amatuer restoration. The car was immediately converted into a street rod and became my wifes daily driver for the next couple of years. The mechanics of the car are typical of the current day street rod, you know, 350/350, 9 inch, Mustang II, etc, etc. This has been a sturdy and dependable car and as you can see we are under reconstruction to freshen up the body after 9 years of being outside. To this date all of the work has been done at home, but this time Im going to turn the painting over to a professional. I was going to paint the car in my garage, but was convinced by a friend that the EPA probably has ‘secret society’ ready to report on individual attempts at expanding the hole in the ozone. The car should be ready to make the trip to Tampa in October.

29 Truck

29 Truck Built by Frank Carey around 1959 this truck has been on the street rod scene for many years. Since ‘86’ the truck has been owned by a number of rodders. I bought the truck in early ‘96’ from an friend in Denville. What is unique in this case, is that unlike many other street rods that have been through a number of owners, this one hasn’t been changed from its original configuration. I first saw this truck about 1986 in York at Nats East. It was for sale and I considered buying it, but I convinced myself the I had too many vehicles and not enough space, I mean how many cars can one keep on a 50X100 homestead in Clifton without aggrevating the neighbors. Anyway, out of sight, out of mind, until the ‘grapevine’ reported that the truck was for sale in ‘96’. This time I bought it.... Currently I’m driving the wheels off of the truck while our other street rod is under reconstruction. Weather permitting, Friday evening the top comes off and Sunday evening the top goes back on, and in between I let the wind blow through what is left of my hair while cruising around. The plan is to freshen-up the truck this winter. No major changes are planned, just remove the road rash, a few cosmetics, and then paint.
